Day 0 - We started the journey out of LAX on ANA in First Class and it was an incredible flight. I even got to do a Sake tasting in the air and drink some Hibiki 21 and Krug Champagne with a ridiculous 5 course meal, and the most important part we had lay flat seats and were able to get some sleep on the flight. The toilets also had bidets which was great too.
Day 1 - Landed around 1PM and got through customs pretty quickly as we were off first the plan and we did not check any bags. We took the limobus to Andaz Tokyo and checked in. Room was on the 50th floor with amazing views of Tokyo Tower and the rest of the city, this hotel is so great if you're curious there are tons of trip reports and blogs about it. After settling in we explored around Ginza and Shimbashi station, ate dinner sampling things from various Lawsons, 7-11s and Family marts; so many bao buns and other random goodness.
Day 2 - First thing in the morning ventured to Tsukiji, explored and then found a sushi restaurant with a shorter line for really great sushi breakfast. Sushi Dai and its neighbors had crazy lines so we just walked a block or two away and found a place that had mostly Japanese people in line. We spent the afternoon in the Omotesando area, wandered the main and back streets and stumbled into random temples, stopped at Dominique Ansel, and Harajuku Dumplings. Later on we wanted a light snack and wanted to try some of the weird McDonald's Japan items forgot what all but nothing was that good, just tried a few bites of different things. More exploration around the are and then dinner at some really good random Japanese BBQ place near our hotel.
Day 3 - Started off with the Borderless Team Lab exhibit. This was pretty cool but I wouldn’t prioritize it if you don't have a lot of time. From here we went to the outskirts of the city to see some architectural houses and spent some time wandering the area. Lots of cool little shops and things around the neighborhood. Then we ventured back to hotel to clean up and had a nice dinner at L'atelier de Joel Robuchon in Roppongi. It was an epic french meal and it never ceases to amaze me how well the Japanese do other cuisines.
Day 4 - Breakfast at the hotel and then headed to the Shinkansen station to go to Kyoto.
