Day 9:Hakone
Day trip to the Lonavala of Tokyo! We bought a Hakone freepass (4000 yen) from Odawara station and did did this Hakone round course. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day, so no view of Mt Fuji was possible.
First stop was at Owakudani which was extremely cloudy and windy. Remember to bring a jacket if you come here. They were selling blackened eggs in many places here - supposedly boiled in the hot springs that Hakone is famous for, which gives them the color. They taste like regular boiled eggs.
Cable car and an oddPirate(why?) boat, both of which are covered by the Hakone freepass and can be used to do the loop of Hakone.
The Hakone shrine on the banks of Lake Ashi makes a good substitute if you didn’t have time for the floating torii at Miyajima.
Unfortunately we did not make it to an onsen (Hakone is a famous hot spring town). I would highly recommend it. If you prefer a private bath as opposed to a public one, you should reserve well in advance.
