Day 7: Day trip to Hiroshima

We had reserved a (free) tour of the Mazda Museum. Mazda has its headquarters at Hiroshima, and as we are both engineers, this was an interesting visit for us. The (English) tour starts at 10am and is of 90 mins duration. This free tour can be reserved online here.

Then we headed to lunch at Nagata-ya for some Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki. It was incredibly filling, and I would highly recommend it!

We then ended the day at the Hiroshima peace park and Museum, which are dedicated to the atomic bomb victims. It was a sad and moving experience.. .

Returned to Kyoto that night by Shinkansen.

We would have loved to go to Miyajima (Itsukushima shrine and the floating Tori gate, +deer!), but that would have needed another full day, which we couldn’t fit into our schedule.
