Day 1
Stayed in the city center at a chic modern Hotel Danmark. What is the first thing you do when you are in Copenhagen, be a good tourist and go see the world famous 'Nyhavn' - it is the most iconic, 17th century waterfront.
This city is a City of palaces and cathedrals. I had a chance to visit most of them on an electric scooter. I was surpisingly very good at riding it, though it was my first time. Highly recommend the scooter ride, very easy to get around with dedicated bike lanes.
I was able to cover quite a few things in a single day. I didn't buy any tickets online, all the palaces were easy to get to, not crowded and quick to tour.
- Christiansborg Palace - seat of the Danish Parliament, the Danish Prime Minister's Office, and the Supreme Court of Denmark.
- Amalienborg - home of the Danish royal family, only one small part of the palace is open to public. It consists of four identical buildings forming a square and is beautiful.
- Charlottenborg Palace - I believe this is a museum and I didn't get a chance to go inside.
- King’s new square, a great place to hang out by the palaces.
- The Round Tower observatory - an iconic view tower in the center of Copenhagen. Great views of the city and a fun place to check out.
- Copenhagen Cathedral - a simple, elegant cathedral, if you are obsessed about cathedrals like me, recommend checking it out.
Day 2
Spent the day being a great tourist at one of the most popular and fun cities in Europe. Got on the bike and covered the following attractions:
- Rosenborg Castle - beautiful castle housing the crown jewels. Highly recommend it.
- Strøget, old town shopping street for a leisurly walk.
- City Hall Square - stunning architecture, right next to Tivoli Gardens, which I didn't have a chance to visit. But I stayed right behind so I could actually see the rides and the park from my room.
- The Little Mermaid statue, I thought this was bit too much effort to get here.
- Gefion fountain, beautiful but skip it if you have less time.
Day 3
I was flying out and had one last thing to visit. The Church of Our Saviour in Christianshavn is a stunning work of art. I climed its famous helix spire with an external winding staircase that can be climbed to the top, offering extensive views over central Copenhagen. I was definitely terrified but it was worth it.
