Day 1: We woke up in our lodging in the Hella area, and made our way to the Seljavallalaug swimming pool, one of the oldest swimming pools in Iceland (built in 1923). We completed the brief hike and took a dip in the warm water. Then we drove to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall (stopping to see some more of the majestic Icelandic horses along our way), which is neat because you can walk behind it. We then drove to the Gamla Laugin (Secret Lagoon) and took another pleasant swim in warm water and enjoyed walking around the geothermal spots. Next, we drove to the famous geothermal Geysir area, where the Strokkur hot spring erupts every 5-10 minutes. We continued on to Gulfoss, another of Iceland's gorgeous, iconic waterfalls. We then visited Thingvellir National Park, which sits in a rift valley caused by the separation of two tectonic plates. We went snorkeling in the Silfra fissure- the most gorgeous, clear water I've ever seen. You can drink it, too. We booked this through DIVE.IS. We enjoyed gingersnaps and hot chocolate after our snorkeling excursion. After, we drove back to Reykjavik for our final night in Iceland. This evening, we went out on the town, staying out extremely late (as Icelanders do!) and enjoying the weekend nightlife in a beautiful, fun city. We definitely packed a lot into our visit, so I would probably recommend spacing this out more, but were absolutely blown away by Iceland's raw, natural beauty and can't wait to return.
Great recommendations! Seeing hot springs and waterfalls in one trip is very cool.
