Day 1: We woke up and headed to the Hoffellsjokull glacier, where we got to pet some Icelandic horses and take an ATV ride to the glacier! We booked this through GlacierWorld, and highly recommend- our guide was very knowledgeable since the tour was on his family's land. Fantastic experience. Then, we headed to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, a definite must see. We did a 30-minute amphibious boat tour around the lagoon, admiring the beautiful glaciers. We then made our way to Skaftafel National Park and hiked to the magnificent Svartifoss waterfall. Next, we drove down towards Vik, admiring the alien-like scenery and stopping at a turf chapel at Nupsstadur Farm. In Vik, we went down to the black sand beach and admired the amazing basalt columns- truly a sight to see. We had a delicious dinner at Vikurskali- lamb stew. We also stopped to see the Skogafoss Waterfall, one of the highest in Iceland. We continued on to spend the night in the Hella area, and saw the northern lights this night! Very exciting.
Great recommendations! Seeing hot springs and waterfalls in one trip is very cool.
