We took the high speed railway from Madrid to Sevilla. It took about 2:30 hours and you get to enjoy the train going at a speed of 310 km/hour. We stayed at an AirBnb home right in the center of the town with a view of the famous La Giralda.
Based on our research it was highly recommended that we should watch a traditional Flamenco show at Sevilla. There are quite a few good options including some who serve dinner during the show. If you want to enjoy the show without the distraction of a meal please visit La Casa del Flamenco. It is a small and intimate setting giving a very close look at this famous dance form. Please arrive early as the best seats get occupied pretty quickly, though you do get to see the show from any section of the room.
Day 1
Next day we started bright and early. We visited the Royal Alcázar of Seville, the famous palace that potrayed the Kingdon of Dorne in the ever famous HBO show 'Game of Thrones'. It is stunning! Highly recommend booking the tickets a month in advance as the the most popular tour with the access to royal residences gets sold out pretty quickly. But don't be disheartened if you don't make it. The rest of the palace and the gardens are well worth the visit.
We then took a horse carriage ride to the Plaza de España. This open and free public square with fountains, canals, bridges and unbelievably stunning architecture transports you into a different era. It is like a scene straight out of a royal movie.
We spent the rest of the evening walking around Santa Cruz, the old town with gorgeous narrow streets and Plaza Alfaro, the inspiration for the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet.
Places to eat:
- Bodega santa cruz (Las Columnas)
- El Rinconcillo
- Please eat as many tapas as possible!
Day 2
By this time I have decided Seville is the most romantic and authentic old towns I have been to ever! We started off with the must-see Seville Cathedral and La Giralda. We booked tickets ahead of time. Since this is very popular tourist destination I recommend booking tickets in advance as much as possible. We also paid a quick visit to Church of El Salvador.
We then headed off to the newer part of town and visited Metropol Parasol or Las Setas de Sevilla. This is a great place get a panoramic view of the city and explore more dining options.
We didn't get to see Torre del Oro, the military watchtower. Also, do not forget to try the traditional orange wine at Álvaro Peregil – a tiny, hole in the wall bar, over 100 years old, introduced the sweet vino de naranja to the city of Seville.
Paella and your itinerary is awesome as always
