Day 6:
In the sixth day I took the morning bus to Monte-Carlo,the capital of Monaco. It's the second smallest country in the world, smaller than some of the communes surrounding it,but also the most densely populated with about 25.000 people per square kilometer. The train there from Nice was about $5,and very short.
I arrived in the morning,so I had breakfast at a nearby italian restaurant and then I walked to the Prince's Palace.I wandered around the place for a bit,and then crowds of tourists started to arrive,as it was time for the changing of the guards. The ceremony looked interesting, but not very special. After the ceremony,I walked to the St.Nicholas Cathedral. It features the same roman-byzantine style as the ones I talked about earlier. The entrance was free, and in my opinion the interior looks much better than the exterior.
After visiting the main attractions on this side of the country,it was time to walk to the other side,to check out the famed Casino and the Opera.I passed by the famous race track that gives the country its fame and the Sainte-Devote Chapel, dedicated to Saint Devota, the patron saint of Monaco.
The Casino is a beautiful piece of architecture, but I decided not to go in,as the entrance fee was about $20.The Opera House, which is situated right next to the Casino,is kinda small but it is very impressive and the inside looks stunning.Totally worth a visit if you're in the country.
In the evening I went for a quick walk around the Monte-Carlo Harbour, before heading back to the train station to catch the evening train back to Nice, where I ended the trip.
