Activities:
Trans-Tasman Ferry - I did the next few segments of the trip through Kiwi Experience, a backpacking bus company in NZ with a variety of passes. Don’t normally travel with groups like that but it was a lot of fun. The ferry runs from Wellington to Picton, taking approximately 3 hours. You can see both the north and south islands at many points, the final hour is within the Marlborough Sounds!
Kayaking and Hiking in Abel Tasman National Park - Kayaking in the park is something I have always wanted to do. The scenery is jaw-dropping. I got the opportunity to walk 9 km back to where we started, via the coastal track. I stopped for a swim along the way! This was high on the list of things I had not done in NZ, so it was well worth the money paid for the excursion. I also hitchhiked for the first time, back from the kayak shop, without getting murdered by a serial killer!
Nelson Lakes National Park - Jump off the pier into the lake! Picturesque, isolated location.
Lodging:
Kaiteriteri Reserve Cabins - Cabin/tiny home through agoda. Quite cozy, especially for the cooler nights.
Eateries:
Hard to come by; there was a nearby hostel, Kaiteri Lodge, with wine and wood-fired pizzas.
