Day 11: Take a ferry to the island of Crete, where you have a free day to enjoy as you like Hotel: Galaxy Iraklio (2 night). This is a very nice, very modern hotel located in the heart of the city within walking distance to bars, restaurants, and shops.
Day 12: Today is a free day to explore Crete, or you can take part in the Optional Tour which is a trip to the city of Chania. Travel to historic Chania, where a local guide introduces you to the city's Old Town. You'll visit Chania's cathedral before a walk through the Venetian quarter, where you'll step inside Etz Hayyim, the only synagogue on the island of Crete and a symbol of the city's ages-old Jewish community. After exploring the synagogue, spend some time strolling through the indoor market, perhaps sampling local herbs, olive oil, and cheeses. Your guided tour ends at the port where you'll visit an ancient Turkish Ottoman mosque. Lunch is included on this excursion, as well as free time to get to know this beautiful city at your own pace. The trip to Chania will take all day, and is well worth the time. To be honest, I wish that we had more time to spend in Chania, as it such a beautiful, historic city.
Day 13:
Enjoy a guided tour of Heraklion this morning.
- Visit the ruins of Knossos, where King Minos imprisoned the Minotaur in a labyrinth, according to the myth
- See the Heraklion Archaeological Museum
After lunch in Heraklion, you will head to the airport to fly back to Athens. Once arriving in Athens there will be time to explore the city a little more before a farewell dinner with the tour.
Day 14: Breakfast, then fly home.
