Getting there
From #kanazawa we took another #train to #takayama. Once again, it is not a bullet train but the #views get better and better the closer you get to the #mountain area.
Moving around the city
Same as in Kanazawa, #takayama is a rather small town so you will be able to walk everywhere and not worry about #publictransport.
Where to stay
For our 2-night stay in Takayama, we chose the Temple Hotel Takayama Zenko-ji. As the name suggests, it is a real Buddhist #temple which offers some of its #traditional rooms for travellers to rent. Aside from the actual accommodation, they offer #activities such as #meditation, #yoga or wearing the traditional #kimono and take some really cool #photos!
What to see
For a big portion of our stay in #takayama the weather was very rainy, which was perfect to enjoy the #temple we were staying in and all its #activities. However, we still managed to see quite a few things:
- Old town: You will find the streets in Takayama #oldtown are really pintoresque and very photogenic. Not only that, but the #shops and #restaurants in those streets are definitely worth a visit.
- Shirakawa-go: This was easily my favourite place of my entire #japan trip. #shirakawago is a small town in the mountains, just a short #bus ride from Takayama. It is a #unesco world heritage site and is famous for its #traditional #farmhouses. The views of the village with the snowy #mountains at the back on a sunny day is really something to behold!
