Because I love to try local beers when I travel, you will find a beer place recommended at the end of each page
Activities
Wandering in he Old Town
One of the main attraction of Split is its charming Old Town, full of narrow cobbled streets and history. You should plan a few hours to see everything, but try to do it in the morning, when the streets are less crowded and the sun is not too strong yet.
Day at the Beach
We were recommended the Kasjuni Beach, as its popular among both tourists and locals. You can access it easily by bus, from Riva, with the bus line 10. It's a small but quite paradisiac beach, and you can find a small beach bar there to have a drink and rent beach chairs. We went during the afternoon and it was full of locals, but definietly not too crowded.
A visit to the market
Wander around the Split Market and buy local products : perfect for a quick lunch or for bringing back edible souvenirs.
Daytrip to the Plitivce Lakes National Park
The Plitive Lakes National Park is a few hours away by bus and attracts a lot of tourists all year around. It's a beautiful national park, with grandiose waterfalls and lush nature. If you want to avoid the crowd and have more time to enjoy the national park, you can sleep in a village next to it. We slept in a hostel at Korenica and we were able to be there quite early, our hostel having a small shuttle bus service. Bring your camera and a sandwich, as the food options there are quite limited and expensive. You will be able to deposit your luggage for a reasonable price at the entrance for the day if you need it.
Lodging
Split
We slept at the En Route Hostel, which I would definitely recommend. It's a cheap and clean hostel, with modern interior. The beds have a curtain for privacy, which means you can choose the cheapest (and largest) dormitory without compromising your comfort.
Korenica
The Falling Lakes Hostel is where we stayed. It was nothing special, but it was affordable and well located. You can register to their shuttle bus for a small fee and they will bring you, along other travellers, to the Plitvice Lakes National Park.
Where to eat
You can find many nice restaurants in the old town, as long as you're looking out for tourist traps. Look for traditionnal dalmatian cuisine ! We can recommand the Nostromo, a Dalmatian restaurant with very good sea food and local cuisine, located in the old town.
Beer time
If you are a beer lover, you shouldn't miss the Black Dog, also called The Daltonist Craft Bar. They don't serve anything to eat, so have something beforehand. You don't want to try all those great local beers on an empty stomach ! They also make great cocktails.
Great itinerary, how good is the public transportation?
