Once I was in Cairo, I uber'd to my hostel, Tahir Square Hostel (same owners as the Hurghada hostel). There's also a hostel on the top floor of the building Tahir Square Hostel is in that is one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in (Tahir Square was full my first night), but Tahir Square Hostel was a more social experience.
Within Cairo, I would use their public transport subways and Uber Moto (motorbike ubers which are much cheaper) to get around the city. Spent a day in Giza with the Pyramids which was amazing, even more so because the whole area was devoid of tourists. Also went to the Coptic Quarter, Islamic Quarter, and otherwise just walked around and explored for a few days.
Finding a cheap COVID test was tough in Cairo, and I settled for NSA Labs, which was in the Tahrir Square area and a ~2 minute walk from the hostel. I arrived the day before I wanted to test, they said to come the next morning when they opened at 9:30am. Took the test, and got my result the following evening (so it was like a ~30 hour turnaround), but it cost around 175 USD. Then flew to South Africa where I have been since then.
