Lafayette, Louisiana is the home of Cajuns. It is such a small city but full of life. I fall in love with this city. We plan for a day trip with authentic foods and visit to Avery Island.
You can reach here by car or by air. There is a small regional airport in Lafayette. The downtown is just 10 minutes away from the airport. But if you arrive here by air, it will cost a lot. You can reach Houston airport or New orlenas airport. Houston is 4 hours drive and New orleans is only 3 hours drive. There are many hotels and anirbnb in Lafayette area. Everything is at max within 20 minute distance from downtown
Day 1 : We started our day with breakfast. We wanted to try some local restaurents for breakfast. There is a restaurent called scrach farm kitchen in the downtown. The speciality of the restaurent is it supports local farmers, they bring every ingreditens from local farmers and make everything from the scrach. The brunch hour is from 9 to 2. We were 7 people in our group. The food is really a delight to your mouth. The price ranges from $ to $$.
Next we headed to Avery Island. It is around 30 minute drive from downtown. The only Tabasco sauce factory is here. Actually both avery island and tabasco factory is owned by the same person. You can visiti these 2 places in one day trip. Fabulous !! Ha ? Entree fee is only 8 bucks per person .
Avery Island is a salt dome best known as the source of Tabasco sauce. You can also enjoy jungle life in the avery island. I made a list of activities you can do here.
Jungle Life : You will see deer, herons, alligators and large oak tress. There is a bird point view in the island. In the start of summer, you will see hundreds of birds in the bird point view
Scenic Drive : You can have a scenic drive around the island
Rest under the oak tree : The large oak tress are pleasure to eyes. You can sit back and take rest and enjoy the nature with a cup of coffee
Budhha Temple : There is a buddha temple from 1100 the century.
Tabasco Sauce Factory : In this visit, you can see how this hot sauce made. You can also buy some sauces from this factory. It is worth a visit
In the afternoon, we left the island and we all wanted to try some Louisiana crawfish. We were there in the month of May and in May you will get fresh caught crawfish. The Louisiana crawfish time restaurent opens from early March to Late May. This was just awesome taste. The sell it per pound.
We ended our one day trip with a smile :)
@ruby Not only the tabsaco factory but the avery island is beautiful also. You will fall in love with the oak tress over there
