The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu
Itinsy did not have Machu Picchu or nearby towns, so Urubamba will do for this section.
Once your body has acclimated, you're ready for the main reason you're here. Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail. There are many options for visiting Machu Picchu: 7 day hike, 4 day hike, 2 day hike, train to Aguas Calienties. At the time I'm writing this, it's been a few years since our trip, so I'm not entirely sure of all of the options or the limits on visitors currently. I will say that the 4 day trek on the Inca Trail was almost better than Machu Picchu itself. You get to stop at so many different Inca sites along the way and you get a much better feel for the way the Incas came to the sacred city. Cresting the Sun Gate at sunrise is a memory I will absolutely never forget. We took our tour with Llama Path and I highly recommend them. Our meals were phenomenal, our guides were funny and knowledgeable, and we met some lifelong friends along the way.
