Alibaug is a little coastal town tucked away in the Konkan region of Maharashtra and is a very popular weekend getaway for people in and around Mumbai + Pune and has earned itself the name of 'mini-Goa', owing to the high tourist footfall all year round. It has beautiful beaches, water sports, forts, temples and good food.
Day 1
We took the ferry from Gateway of India, Mumbai at 9 AM in the morning and reached our hotel in Alibagh by 11 AM after the ferry travel, Mandwa port and car to Hotel. We started our sightseeing after having some light food at Hotel.
We first went to Kolaba Fort, an old military fortification situated in the Arabian Sea near the shores of Alibaug. It was afternoon and we started our beach hopping. We went first to Alibaug Beach which is probably the most famous beach in Alibaug, then Varsoli Beach and lastly we ended our evening with Nagaon Beach. My favorite was the Nagaon beach as it was loaded with amazing water sports like parasailing, banana boat, jet skiing, and so on.
Day 2
We started the day with a visit to Revdanda Fort & Beach. Revdanda Fort is an ancient Portuguese fort around 18 km from Alibaug. The architecture of the fort deserves to be seen. Next up was the Murud Janjira Fort, for which we had to take a ferry. The visit to this fort was the highlight of our trip and is one of the most memorable forts that I have ever been to. At a distance of 53 km from Alibaug, Murud - Janjira is an island fort surrounded by the Arabian Sea on all sides and is one of the strongest marine forts of India. The original structure was built in the 15th century by a Koli chief as defense against pirates and thieves. Lastly, we went to Kashid Beach. Kashid Beach is tucked between two hillocks and is known for its clear waters, white sand and casuarina groves that line the shore. It is by far the most beautiful beach that I have ever visited.
