Beauty of Taj Mahal !!

Agra, the city in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh, is one of the topmost and most visited tourist places of India because: TAJ MAHAL. Enough said :) 

Agra has an airport but I am not sure of the flights. We took a train from Delhi which had a travel time of just around 2 hours. For local transportation, I recommend booking a cab in advance from any operator online. 

Day 1

Agra Fort

Agra Fort is another architectural wonder of Mughals. Built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, the red sandstone fort houses numerous interesting buildings like Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Sheesh Mahal, Jehangir Palace, Khaas Mahal, Musamman Burj and Pearl Mosque.

Taj Mahal

A beauty in white marble, Taj Mahal is the main attraction of Agra and fascinates the visitors with its marvellous architecture. One of the seven wonders of the world, Taj Mahal was constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1653 in memory his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. Standing as an epitome of love, the magnificent monument is set in a huge complex, equipped with well-maintained gardens and fountains. We went there in the afternoon after our lunch break and stayed till the evening. The Taj Mahal is the most beautiful piece of architecture I have ever witnessed and it is in full glow in the evening. 

Local Food & Shopping 

Agra is famous for its local cuisine like chaat, petha etc. We had a sumptous dinner at a place called "Sky Grill" which was a rooftop restaurant with a spectacular view. We also went to the local bazaar and did shopping for some clothes, sandals etc

Day 2

Taj Mahal Again

It is well worth the second early morning in a row to visit the Taj Mahal just as it opens around sunrise. The morning sun catches the Taj just so, and having seen the monument the previous evening, you can spend a leisurely hour just gazing at its beauty and composing that perfect photo.

Fatehpur Sikri

Just 45 minute away from Agra lies the city of Fatehpur Sikri, a World Heritage Site, which was one of the capital cities of the Mughal Kingdom. This is a must see place in Agra which can be easily visited if you are staying for 2 days. The intricate Moghul architecture is seen in its early stages here.

Akbar's Tomb

Akbar’s tomb is located in Sikandra, a suburb of Agra. The exterior gates are made of red stone which was a typical choice during his time. The entrance to the tomb is decorated with beautiful Persian stones half of which have been stolen.

Mehtab Baag

This garden across River Yamuna from Taj complex, called Mehtab Baag, gives one of the best views of Taj Mahal minus the crazy crowd. Yes, please! Rumor has it that Shah Jahan wanted to build a black marble replica of Taj Mahal on these grounds but that project never took off.
