Enjoy a leisurely morning shopping for antiques in Round Top and sipping coffee from Round Top Coffee Shop. Then take a short, easy drive looping north and east through pretty countryside to Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site. This site commemorates the place where Texas declared its independence from Mexico and status as a republic. There is also a living history farm, where costumed performers use period techniques to recreate the farm of the last President of Texas. End up in Brenham, one of the most charming and picturesque mid-size towns in Texas. There are no shortage of great restaurants in Brenham, so take your pick, but get dessert from Jet Set Chocolates.
The next day, get some coffee from Mescalito Coffee and spend some time exploring the beautiful courthouse square and downtown area. Stick around to get lunch from one of the outstanding barbecue joints in town - Truth (only open weekends) LJ's (open Thu-Sat) or Cody's Pit Stop (only open Sat) - but be prepared to get in line early!
After lunch, drive home. Enjoy your trip!
