Not Merida - Uxmal Instead
To be honest, Merida has enough to see that it probably warranted a longer stay, but such is the backpacker life. Our main point of interest in the city was to see the historical centre, and so Merida just happened to be where we spent the night after checking out the main attraction: Uxmal.
Of all of the acheological sites I had the opportunity to see in Mexico, Uxmal is among my top two (Palenque is the other). The ruins themselves are not only large, but they are in unbelievably good condition. Stone roofs are still standing, stonework artistry is still well defined, and in certain spots, there is even still paint left over. While it can't compete with Teotihuacan in sheer size, I think it definitely outshines it in terms of intricate details and remaining architecture.
Thanks for the introduction.
