I got here by catching a ride with my 2 new Taiwanese friends I met in Noboribetsu.
I wanted to experience new things, so instead of opting for a guest house or hostel I tried my luck with couchsurfing.
I was very lucky to be accepted by a local girl and her father, they picked me up and we went to a local restaurant which had AMAZING food! Unfortunately I don't remember the name, but that was one of my favorite experiences in my trip. I spent a total of 1 night in their house and they offered amazing hospitality like only Japanese people can.
Things to do in Hakodate:
- Visit and walk around the fort
- If you've gone too long without your dirty and greasy burgers, there's a cool place called "Lucky Pierrot" which will solve that issue.
- There are a bunch of day trips available but I didn't have time to check them out as I stayed here only 1 night.
- One of Hakodate's most famous attractions is the night view that you can see from Mt. Hakodate. The family I stayed with during my couchsurfing were kind enough to drive me there and we all watched the beautiful city all lit and bright from one of the viewpoints on the mountain. Many stars to gaze upon!
After my brief Hakodate stay I took a train ride (Shinkansen) to Aomori which meant that my Hokkaido trip was officially over.
Fascinating and helpful reading about these towns and destinations in Japan, places I would not have known about reading where to go.
