As I was working abroad I had a few days to spend in Singpore to explore the city solo. The city is compact but does offer plenty to do. Here was my trip:
Day 1: Landing at Changi Airport you are greeted by a humid and hot wind as you leave the baggage claim area. Going to the taxi stand you must queue in order to get a ride. I opted for the brand "Comfort" as my taxi choice as they are both reliable and the chaper option. Make sure to look for this brand as they are vibrant blue and yellow in color. I then took the taxi straight to my first destination which was the 'Maxwell Hawker Centre". A hawker centre is not to be missed as this is where you can find the best food that closely resembles Singapores culture. Hawker Centres are spread out amongst the whole city and each Hawker usually has a specialty item. For this Hawker Centre I chose the spicy Chili Crab-a must and some Hainese Chicken and rice-the most famous dish. Both dishes were equally tasty and were met with a cold local 'Tiger beer'. After my meal I went up on top of the famous boat shaped hotel called the 'Marina Bay Sands'. As the pool on the roof is only for guests, you can bypass this by going to the viewing only bar that overlooks the whole city. You do have to order a drink which can be expensive but is worth it for the view. As I was running out of time for the day, I went and checked in at my hotel which was the 'Mandarin Orchard Hotel'. I highly reccomend this hotel as it was in close proximatey to the heart of the city.
Day 2: I woke up early and went to the local "China Town" which was about a 20 minute walk from the hotel. It was very humid once again so if you have issue with this you would most likley want to hire a taxi. In China town I tasted the amazing steam rolls that I found at the China Town Hawker centre. A this location you can expereince many meat dishes as well as vegetarian friendly options. I was reccomended by others to explore the nearby Sri Marimman Temple. I thought the temple was interesting but did not offer much. As it began to get hotter in the day, I made my way back to the Marina Bay Sands hotel where behing the structure is the 'Marina Bay Gardens'. This area is a must see as it offers one of the largest man-made indoor waterfall and jungle. The ticket price was a bit steep but worth it. If you are going, make the trip in the evening as the structured metal trees are illuminated at night. After this, I went back to the Maxwell Hawker Centre and finished the night with some food and beer.
