Life on Easy Mode - Bahamas

Sometimes you just need a different reality. Sometimes you just need life to be on easy mode. Sometimes you just need to be on an island in the sun. Somewhere you can experience warm breezy days comprised of swaying palm trees, sand between your toes, copious amounts of bright neon colored cocktails, and carefree thoughts as crystal clear as the water. This was more of a traditional vacation trip than what I'm used to (no complaints here, just used to being go-go-go when traveling). This was a girls trip with my mom and sister. Paradise + my family dynamics equates to an interesting time, nevertheless it was much needed time to relax. 

Day 1
Nassau, Bahamas

We stayed 1 night in Nassau and made our way to an Out Island for the remainder of the trip. It was a drizzly, grey afternoon upon arrival. We settled into our hotel room and then took a hotel arranged cab ride to get some dinner.

• Arawak Cay

  • Energetic, happenin' area with lots of seafood restaurants to choose from.

• Drifters At Da' Fry (for Caribbean fare)

  • Good authentic Bahamian food. This is where my obsession with a dessert called Guava Duff originated.

Day 2-6
Long Island, Bahamas

The next day we took a short flight with Southern Air Charter to Long Island (not to be mixed up with the NYC island of the same name) and landed in Stella Maris Airport. In general people don't get to experience very many novel moments after a certain point in their adulthood, but I would say this plane ride was certainly uncharted territory that will forever stand out in my memory. Staring out the plane window was so beyond beautiful that my brain could hardly process it. It was simultaneously exhilarating and petrifying to be on this tiny 12-seater plane flying high above the most majestic, swirly gem-colored blue waters.

We stayed at the Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort which was just as idyllic and postcard perfect in real life as depicted in the photos. We spent most of the days just being beach bums, but we did do a little sight seeing with the help of a local guide (again arranged by the resort).

• Clarence Town
• Max Conch Bar & Grill
  • We happily gobbled up conch fritters and conch salad, and washed it all down with cold beer. The atmosphere was the epitome of island cool.
• Dean's Blue Hole
  • Hauntingly beautiful spot on this green and blue ball spinning 'round the sun. We hiked the surrounding area and observed all the jaw-dropping beauty. We weren't adventurous enough to swim/snorkel/dive, but it is a famous dive site for all the brave souls that aren't scaredy cats of what lurks in the deepest depths of the ocean.
