Made a day trip out to Kobe specifically so we could say we ate Kobe beef in Kobe. I'm sure there are equally as good options in Osaka, but alas I had it in my mind to eat at the yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) restaurant La Shomon (this is where Mark Wiens went and had multiple foodgasms).
La Shomon was delicious (but keep in mind, I don't have anything to compare it to). We got the set dinner for 2 and I think it was a good sized portion for the cost. The wagyu sashimi was incredible and a pretty mind-blowing experience. All the cuts that we grilled on our own were awesome, but I don't think I have a defined enough palate to really comment other than it was melt in your mouth perfect.
I would say the only thing that would deter me from going to the restaurant if we were to redo our trip is due to the commute out to Kobe. Due to rainy weather we didn't really explore Kobe, just ended up going for the meal at the restaurant and then headed back to Osaka. For that reason, I almost wish we just found an amazing option in Osaka instead of taking multiple trains/traveling a few hours. That's not really a reflection of the food/restaurant though, but more so thoughts from (at that point in the trip) a weary traveler.
