From the Nusa Islands I headed straight to the Gili Islands, which technically aren’t a part of Bali. The Gili islands are very small and there are no cars driving around there, which is not a problem since everything is in walking distance.
I arrived at Gili Trawangan, which is known as a party island. I stayed at a party hostel named my Mate’s place, very friendly and outgoing people. Every night you could join the group for some fun and games at the hostel and head out later that night. During the day I would just lounge at the beach to recover from the night before.
After a weekend of partying I headed to a much calmer Gili Air, known for its white sandy beaches and clear blue water. I intended to learn and earn my scuba diving license, sadly a stomach flu paired with previous hangovers got the best of me and I spent four days in my room resting.
Beware of the food when travelling because it may not always be clean or our bodies are not yet accustomed to certain cuisines/styles, as delicious as it may be.
The Gili Islands have better beaches but overall it was not as clean as Bali and I experienced that the local people were less welcoming and more hostile than the friendliness I experienced in Bali. All in all, it was a great visit and interesting to see the differences between the two.
This is very interesting! I am jealous that you were able to spend a month in Indonesia :)
