Activities:
Daytrip to Gothenburg - My friend and I took the 40-minute train ride to Gothenburg on one of her days off of work. Highlights were the vast botanic gardens in the environmentally-friendly city, and visiting Ullevi Stadium. The reason I wanted to see Ullevi is American legend Bruce Springsteen played a concert there in the 1980s, and the fans were so rowdy that the stadium’s foundation got damaged. As someone who has met Bruce in person and seen several concerts, this was a must.
Seaside Stroll to Lighthouse - Walked about an hour each way along the coastline to Varberg’s famous lighthouse. Great hike/stroll, passing through some beautiful coastline.
Sauna/Bathhouse - I went to a unique sauna one day in Varberg. It’s a nude sauna in a historic building on the North Sea, which you can jump into to cool off.
Lodging:
Friend’s flat in Varberg - I stayed with my friend in the heart of Varberg. Her flat had a loft where she slept, and a kitchen/living area where I slept. One of the best ways to truly experience a country is to stay with local people. Funnily enough, this friend and I met in New Zealand which is halfway around the world for both of us (I’m from the U.S.). Sometimes life just works out like that!
Eateries:
ICA Kvantum (Supermarket) - We cooked several meals from ingredients we got here, including Sweden’s signature meatball dish; Varberg isn’t exactly Tourism Destination # 1; in fact, I was probably the only tourist there when I went.
MAX Burgers - A Scandinavian burger train, featuring a plant based burger which was actually pretty good, coming from a carnivore!
Awesome itinerary! I only have one week, which of the locations should i drop?
I stayed one night in Denmark Copenhagen (transfer flight..) but i was too afraid to go out due to covid..
Great itinerary! Is it too cold to visit in October?
