Activities:
The hotel had a hiking trail nearby, if you wanted to visit other beaches, but it was a bit steep and rocky, so take some good shoes, if you want to go there.
We visited nearby city of Vieste, which had a beautiful old town, and we also had a coffee in some cafe right by the sea. Just remember to take your sunglasses with you everywhere! Your eyes won't survive 5 minutes without sunglasses, the sun is blinding, you literally can't see anything without them. We even went swimming with sunglasses, because it was just impossible to keep our eyes.
We also visited Forest Umbra, which is part of the national park - it was a nice change of scenery, we saw a couple of turtles and fishes that were literally jumping out of the water to eat the food we were throwing.
We also stopped on our way and found a local farmer who was selling all sorts of tasty things, so I recommend you check them out, they are scattered all over the region.
Accomodations:
Vieste was one of our day trips from Peschici region, but we actually stayed in a hotel that was on our way to Vieste, called "Hotel Gusmay & Suite Le Dune"
link: https://www.booking.com/hotel/it/suite-le-dune.html
This was supposed to be a 5-star hotel, but in reality we were very disappointed, it was much much worse than our previous hotel in Peschici, yes, they had a huge private teritory with two swimming pools, but that looks good only in pictures. We spent most of our time walking between our hotel room and the beach, which involves crossing a street, it takes like 10 minutes to walk each way.
The room was mediocre, like an average 3-star hotel, just broken. Everything was broken there, especially the shower - the drain didn't work, every time we had a shower, the whole bathroom floor was flooded. The walls were made out of paper, I guess, we could hear absolutely everything that was going on in the nearby rooms, without ear plugs it wouldn't be possible to sleep.
The breakfast was awful, nobody spoke english, but you couldn't serve the food by yourself due to covid-19 restrictions, so we got an angry italian who was in a really bad mood because we couldn't speak to him in Italian, but the worst thing - the breakfast restaurant which is right by the sea was infested with a wasp colony, there were hundreds of wasps flying around, it was impossible to eat.
The only good thing about this hotel - the beach was very clean and we were lucky that there were even bigger waves than in Peschici.
Cocktails here were very expensive, and since nobody spoke english here, they constantly messed up our orders. For example, once we showed on the drink's menu that we want a gin cocktail, and they brought us a tuna sandwich! I am not joking, we didn't even order it verbally, just showed on the english menu what we wanted and they made us a sandwich instead...
I strongly recommend that you find a better hotel in this area, there are literally hundreds of hotels in the region, stay anywhere but here.
Food:
Food in the hotel was awful, breakfast was cold and you had to wait a long time to get anything.
Restaurant for the dinner had like 5 dishes only and they were overpriced - twice as much as any other nearby restaurant.
So we opted for taking our car and driving a bit to some nearby restaurant, and to our surprise we found the best place to in the whole region! The place is called "Al Tramonto"
It's a few kilometers away from the hotel, but it's definitely worth the drive! We liked it so much that it was the only place afterwards were we ate. It has a great scenery, it's on top of a small hill overlooking the beach and the sea. You can sit outside and drink cocktails, or have an awesome dinner on their large balcony. The staff was superb, they understood everything we wanted and they were super fast, I haven't seen such enthusiastic staff in a very long time! The food was top notch, I took different kinds of pizzas, my wife took some sort of pasta with sea food, and there wasn't anything to add, it was just perfect. The price was just as any other italian restaurant, but definitely not overpriced!
Beautiful Pics!
