JAIPUR!
Also known as the Pink City! What a truly mystical experience. I came here during my trip to India in 2016 and with perfect timing I arrived just in time for the Holi festival. The spring festival of colours. I'll be sharing with you just a few sights to see around this ancient city!
HAWA MAHAL!
Also known as 'the wind palace', this ancient building has heaps of windows on the outside that are all fully functiong allowing the wind to pass through at various pitches. The palace grounds itself is easy to navigate with plenty of other areas to go other than open street side of it. Truly an amazing place.
GALTA JI! (THE MONKEY TEMPLE)
Hey, no monkeying around! This is a real place of worship, and it is unreal. Monkeys run rampant everywhere. You can purchase peanuts and fruits from outside the temple grounds to feed to the monkeys. You can tell these monkeys are used to the tourists because they will drop whatever they are currently eating to come and try to take more "fresh" ones from you, so be careful! This is a mostly outdoors temple although there are a few inside prayer areas. It's worth nothing to always walk CLOCKWISE around a temple. If you go the other way, believe me, they'll tell you.
RICKSHAWS!
Honestly, nothing beats hopping in a rickshaw at the end of a long day and just feeling the breeze in your hair as the someone else does all the driving. It's a very nice and easy way to see alot of the city too, even if you have no destination in mind. And don't worry about finding one - they'll find you.
AMER!
Amer is a small village located just outside of Jaipur. I met a family of rickshaw drivers and they invited me to their home for dinner. I could not refuse. They lived in the small village of Amer where children ran along the rooftops once they saw a foreigner. They followed us all the way the guys house before they had to shoo the curious kids away. We ate dinner with the family on a rooftop with a perfect sunset on the horizon. A memory I will never forget.
I hope anyone who comes to this amazing city truly takes in everything for what it is - true beauty.
