Machu Picchu by train is best experience travelling
It has always been my dream to see and experience Machu Picchu with my own eyes. That dream came true and it was amazing. On my tour of Peru I had many new impressions and experiences, but Machu Picchu just amazed me.
Just the train ride from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Pueblo on the edge of the rainforest is great. The train meanders through the picturesque landscape of the Peruvian Andes. There are no roads in this area, the train is the only connection to Machu Picchu. When you arrive at the final stop Machu Picchu Pueblo in Aguas Calientes, you are initially a little "shocked" because the place is very lively.
We stayed in Aguas Calientes so that we could set off early the next day to the famous Inca ruins and be the first guests of the day there.
Machu Picchu
A bus takes you over serpentines a few hundred meters in altitude until you arrive at the entrance of Machu Picchu. Before to arrived, we booked the Machu Picchu tickets online. Our destination is finally at 2,430 meters between many mountain peaks in the Andes.
From the entrance you go up a few more steps and then you have this breathtaking view of Machu Picchu. The view is as you imagine it - only that you are really there and not just looking at pictures. The entire mountain panorama is also unique.
We had four hours to walk through the Incan ruined city and explore Machu Picchu from every angle. It was just amazing.
Today's UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by the Inca in the 15th century and up to 1,000 people sometimes lived there. Machu Picchu is known as an important political and religious center of the Inca period. The construction of the site is very impressive: Rectangular stone blocks are stacked on top of one another without any recognizable binding agent. And yet walls, huts and terraces were built in this way.
For me, Machu Picchu is rightly one of the seven modern wonders of the world and is therefore an important part of my Peru travel report.
