This was a month long solo trip to Europe. My first ever solo Backpacking trip internationally. Planned with emphasis on fun experiences, food, history, culture, architechture and budget friendly.
Day 1: Flew in to Berlin from Baltimore via layover in Iceland. Believe the new international airport opened this year (2020) in Berlin. Took train/tram to hostel in Kreuzberg. Would recommend this area for bars, nightlife, food and generarlly a very hip area next to Gorlitzer park. Its a little bit rough area and not for the faint hearted. The hostel i stayed at (Jetpack alternatve) looks to be closed permanently but would recommend their other locations.
Day 2: Took train to Brandenburg gate area. I did a free walking tour i found via my hostel and would recommend it. A lot to see near the gate and you tip (optional) the tour guide at the end of tour. Generally a very busy area with a lot to see. Visited Checkpoint charlie and some of the shopping areas.
Day 3 - 5: I spent time relaxing in Gorlitzer park as it was right across from the hostel. I did visit some of the clubs in the area with people i met from the hostel. Berghain which is supposedly the best club in Europe, i tried to go in 6am in the morning and was not allowed in. They only let certain types of people in the club. This is true for many of the top clubs in Berlin as they will not allow foriegners and only germans or german speaking people in the club. Make sure to walk around Kreuzberg and eat some Doner. Some of the best Doner kebab i have had and very reasonably priced and usually open 24 hours. Grab a beer from convienient store for a euro and Doner for a nice lunch in the park. Also Berlin is very bike friendly so feel free to rent a bike and explore. Berlin is one of the best cities is in the world minus some of the rude club rules.
