Day 1: Flew into Lisbon and stayed at #HomeLisbon . In my top 3 favorite hostels ever. I spent the day exploring the city, walking along the beaches and all through the town, and just getting my bearings.
Day 2: Started the morning with a tour form my hostel. It was a free tour (gratuities of course) that was around 3 hours long. They showed us all around the city and explained the history as well as local favorites and places to go. This hostel has dinner nearly everynight from “momma” who is the owner of the hostel. She is an excellent chef and cooks something new every night. A 3 or 4 course meal with unlimited wine and sangria. I think it was around 10 euros. She will sit down and tell us stories and want to hear our stories. It’s a beautiful place. The whole hostel gets together and this is the best place to make friends. After dinner we went and celebrated Eve of St. Anthony which is the best holiday in Lisbon! Every neighborhood in the city has music on the streets, street vendors selling fish and fried meats with beer. Everything a few euros, max. There are parades and dances and just the most incredible experience. It is the largest party I’ve ever seen. So a group of people I met at the hostel and I explored the city for hours listening to music and eating food.
Day 3: I spent this day exploring more of the city and then I took a cooking class that I found on Airbnb. I was there for 5 hours and made traditional Portuguese food. It was incredible and authentic experience, high recommend. I then headed back to the hostel for mamma’s dinner and spend the evening visiting with fellow travelers.
Day 4: I hiked up to Miradouro da Graca which presented the most beautiful views of the city. I then hopped on a bus that took me to Lagos. I stayed at the #AlgarveSurfHostel and was welcomed by a BBQ. There was sangria, music, and a buffet of freshly BBQd food. I met a lot of people, played ping pong, and prepped for the next day.
Hi Alex, I linked it to the itinerary!
Do you have the link for the cooking class from Airbnb? Want to save for when we are in Portugal as that is a spot my wife and I have not yet been. And this would be great to do especially since you highly recommend! Thanks!
Really helpful hostel recommendation! BBQ in Portugal sounds interesting and delicious too. Saving your trip.
