If one is thinking for a short weekend getaway near Mumbai, then Panchgani is the place to be. With its scenic hill stations, Panchgani is a place that will enchant you. The name "Panchgani" is derived from the five hills surrounding it, and it is most famous for its various sunset and sunrise points and scenic valley view.
Day 1:
We started off in our car from Mumbai at around 5 AM in the morming and reached Panchgani at around 11 AM. It is around 250 Km drive. We had booked a hotel. We checked in, relaxed a bit and took lunch. At around 4 PM, we went out to explore some local food in the markets, to explore some local shopping and to view the sunset from Sydney Point. Sydney Point is one of the most famous viewpoints in Panchgani hill station, specially for sunset.
Post the completion of the day, we came back to out hotel in the evening.
Day 2:
Next day, the plan was to visit the sunrise point before breakfast. So we went to the Wilson Point / Sunrise Point. The sunrise was a majestic sight. We then came back to hotel for breakfast. Post which we visited the following places:
- Mapro Garden - The major highlight of Mapro Garden is the chocolate factory within the premises.
- Parsi Point - It is one of the good points at Panchgani to get a picturesque view.
- Devil's Kitchen - According to mythology, this is the place where Pandavas of Mahabharata stayed here for a while during their exile. This place was used to cook their food. The place is now a beautiful sightseeing spot which is popular among tourists.
- Table Land - Table Land is the highest point in Panchgani and is situated at an elevation of 4550 feet above sea level. This is one of the best tourist places to visit in Panchgani.
- Rajpuri Caves - Rajpuri Caves are one amongst the most ancient attractions of the Panchgani region. There are four caves and these ancient caves are surrounded by many water kunds.
Upon completion of our tour on Day 2, we headed back to Mumbai.
It was a fun and a relaxing trip.
