MUMBAI! (BOMBAY)
Holy hell, whatta city. This massive Indian capital is home to over 30 million people. That's nearly the entire population of Canada is one single city. It can be downright hectic but I'm here to point out a few of the more lowkey and laid back areas of Mumbai. Let's get it!
JUHU!
Juhu district, home to Juhu beach. There's a really laid back almost surfer beach bum vibe here. I stayed at a hotel directly across from Juhu beach and needless to say I caught the sunset at the beach every single night. During the day the beach isnt as busy and quite quiet. Towards the evening time and around sunset is when all the vendors come out to set up. Anything from food, chai, to henna on your hands, this beach truly has it all.
BANDRA MARKET!
Looking to get some sweet Indian fabrics? Look no further. Bandra market located outside of the Juhu district more to the south has everything from clean-cut fabrics to full on suits and sari's. Be careful though, it's easy to get lured in by people trying to sell you things that you may not want to buy and you'll find yourself struggling to say no sometimes. Haha. Bandra market also has a beautiful park nestled just outside of it before the entryway and people often have picnics at. If you've been looking for a whole new wardrobe that won't break the bank, Bandra is the place for it.
GANDHI NATIONAL PARK!
Just north of Mumbai is the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. A beautiful nature preservation open to the public year round. I was fortunate enough to be able to rent a bike from here and tour the park. I climbed a massive hill to explore some ancient buddhist caves that were at the top. There is so much to see and do in this amazing park but I only had enough time for one day! There's plenty of opportunity for adventure here.
NAVI MUMBAI!
This special little suburb is located right close to the water. There is a main bridge that connects central Mumbai with Navi Mumbai and the bridge itself is a wonder to look at and pass through. Easily accsessible by rickshaw, this is an area worth exploring. If you fancy some street food, there is a Pani Puri stand always waiting around here! Pani Puri is an excellent indian street snack that is mouth watering and a definite must-try!
I may have only spent a week in Mumbai soaking up the sun but this city has unlimited potential with how massive it is. You are sure to find anything you are looking for at any given moment, on any given corner! Have a blast and stay safe everyone.
