First stop in your getaway to Bali is Ubud! Ubud is a bustling city full of boutiques and yoga studios everywhere. Picture mopeds flying down the streets blaring their horns, monkeys hanging from cables, and hippies walking with no shoes.
Spend your first day exploring the shops and getting to know the town. If you're like me and came to Bali for the yoga, the Yoga Barn was my favorite spot in Ubud and offers classes for all levels. The studio feels like a tropical oasis to escape from the busy streets of Ubud, and even offers fun evening events like ecstatic dance classes, meditations, and workshops.
A trip to Ubud wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Monkey Forest. This is a signature attraction of Ubud and is actually three temples overrun by adorable monkeys. Hold on to things like headphones and other personal items because they have been known to snatch items!
We stayed at a guesthouse called Budi House in central Ubud, and for less than $20 a night we got a beautiful poolside room. We were on a budget this trip, so $20 for a hotel room was a great deal considering many backpackers opt to stay in hostels. You'll also see that Bali is famous for its luxurious pools, and we loved to swim in Budhi House's pool surrounded by greenery and flowers everywhere.
Places to Eat
Seeds of Life Cafe is a great place to hang out with comfortable cushions for seating. It is a raw vegan menu, but don't let that steer you away. Their menu is incredibly creative, delicious, and extensive! They have four pages of their menu just dedicated to specialty tonics and elixers, and I still crave their Swamp Juice Smoothie and raw desserts!
