My Best friend and his wife wanted to get away for the July 4th weekend to celebrate his birthday. Since we're both Jamaican we decided to visit Jamaica.
Day 1 (Arrival)
Prior to reaching the island we made sure to set-up our transport from the airport to the resort. In most cases, I've discovered that most if not all 4-star and higher resorts will provide free transport in Jamaica. After arrival, our transport told us that we could get drinks before they drove to the resort. We of course got a few drinks and some beef patties. I really nice treat upon arrival!
Once at our resort Secrets St. James we decided to explore the resort. Not only did they provide us with welcome cocktails, but they also gave us a quick tour of all the restaurants an amenities on the property. Very welcoming!
Later that night we decided to eat dinner at the Blue Mountain (Jamaican Cuisine) Restaurant on the resort. It was really good! I had the oxtail and I can tell that it was cooked well, meat falling off the bone well!
Day 2
We decided to book a trip to see and climb the world's famous Dunn's River Fall. Since our resort was a 2-hour drive from the location the trip we booked included an hour tour of the island including seeing Usain Bolts old high school Knibb It's where he trained while he attended the school. After that we had a jerk chicken lunch then hopped on a catamaran. The trip was pretty quick and took about 20 minutes. They even allowed us to jump into the ocean for a quick dip in the ocean, very refreshing.
Once at the falls we quickly realized that the water temperature was very cold lol. It was welcomed since July in Jamaica can have temperatures 90 degrees and higher. The climb was super fun and doing it with friends made it even more fun. The climb requires water shoes which you can buy before you head to the country or purchase before you hop on the catamaran. Again overall an amazing experience. Highly recommend!
Once back at the resort we decided to head out to a Margaritaville where we had drinks and partied the night away.
Day 3
For breakfast, we got the national dish ackee & saltfish. It was really good! After we decided to hang around the resort hitting up the resort beach. Throughout the day we ran into a couple of parrots and a patty cart handing out FREE patties! We headed home later that night.
Overall a really fun trip! We wished we booked more days, but for the time we spent there together it was still fun.
