Tulum had been on our list for a WHILE. I was celebrating a big birthday this year so it was the perfect time to explore a new place while diving head first in the boujee birthday life that Tulum had to offer but wanted to take the most out of our trip by exploring around Tulum as well.
DAY 1
We landed in Cancun 3pm, paid $100 for having an overweight bag (offto a great start). The second you land all the Mexican tourist agencies, car services, anything to deal with vacation are all over you like dogs, it was truly something I’ve never experienced before. We found our car company and we took a shuttle to where the car was located and was surprised to find a hidden insurance fee so I will be doing some research the next time we go to Mexico, but I don’t believe the bigger car services have this hidden fee. We drove about an hour and a half to a town called Valladolid, in Yucatán to cut our drive to Chichén-Iza down in the morning. Driving into the town it was very run down but there was so much character to this town and it was right at sunset so as you can imagine it was so beautiful all the colorful buildings, churches and streets of all the homemade crafts I was excited to drop our stuff and go walk around. We found the most incredible and romantic hotel with hammocks that truly set the bar for our first night in Mexico, Hotel Posada San Juan. They gave us a full tour of the property and were so unbelievably hospitable. The rooms were so clean and it was just absolutely beautiful. The only downside was that we only got to stay one night. We went and walked around and naturally found an Italian spot for drinks and an appetizer where we sat and talked about life for hours. It was the perfect night and start to our trip. We went back to the hotel experienced for the first time...showering...OUTSIDE.
