Day 1: Arrive, travel to Reykjavik via shuttle bus. Explore Reykjavik shops, bars and restaurants.
Day 2: Rent a car to explore Raufarholshellir lava tube. Then drive to Golden Circle highlights along the south coast up to Skaftafell National Park to camp for two days.
Day 3: Take a 5.5-hour glacier tour from Skaftafell. Drive to nearby villages for the hot springs and dinner.
Day 4: Ice climbing for seven hours at Skaftafell, and then drive back to Reykjavik.
Days 5-8: Fly from Reykjavik to Isafjordur. Kayak and camp for 3 days in the Westfjords.
Day 9: Explore Isafjord shops, galleries and restaurants as a rest day.
Day 10: Fly back to Reykjavik. Get a new hostel, visit a local hotspring, and walk around town.
Day 11: Take a renewable energy tour, visiting the local geothermal energy plants and farms. Visit a local hotspring.
Day 12: Depart
How did you like the Ice Climbing?
@monique241 I did find it to be relatively easy to drive in Iceland. The trippiest spots are the temporary metal bridges that line the coast. They narrow into one-lane bridges and at dusk it can get spooky hopping on them.
