Have a Happy Halloween in New Orleans

Activities

Two museums that we loved were the Voodoo Museum and Pharmacy Museum. The first pharmacy in the United States was located in New Orleans, and the museum features an apothocary with exhibits of early medicines and how they were used. It's only $5 and takes about 30 minutes to walk through, so it's a quick and interesting tour to learn more about the history of the city. 

The Voodoo Museum, located in the French Quarter, is filled with information and old objects of Voodoo history and practices. An interesting and educational experience, and perfect if you are travelling during Halloween and want something spooky!

Speaking of spooky, our favorite activity was a ghost tour through the French Quarter. New Orleans is often referred to as one of the most haunted places in America, and the whole city is buzzing with stories of ghosts, vampires, voodoo, and the buildings that hold these bone-chilling histories. We booked the tour through Witches Brew Tours, and our tour guide walked us through the streets, animatedly telling us of murders, crimes, and hauntings that appeared on those very sidewalks. 

Another fun day trip idea is to take the trolly to the Garden District. There you'll find beautiful tree lined streets with mansions, an incredible park with giant trees, and vintage clothing stores. 

Lodging

A historic hotel in the heart of New Orleans makes the trip all the more memorable. We stayed at the Olivier House Hotel and this was actually one of our favorite parts about the whole weekend. Located in the French Quarter, this mansion was built in 1839 and converted into a hotel in 1970. The intricate details, vintage decorations, balconies and grand staircases made this hotel such a unique experience! The owner even gave us a small historical tour of the hotel, explaining what different rooms used to be and who the owners were. I cannot recommend staying here enough! 

Places to Eat

Brennan's Restaurant is iconic in New Orleans. It is where Banana's Foster originated, which is a delicious and famous New Orleans dessert consisting of cooked bananas, vanilla ice cream, and a sweet rum sauce. We loved their bread pudding as well! 

Cafe Du Monde is an obvious destination to try their famous beignets, but we found that Cafe Beignet had equally delicious beignets and actually had better ice coffee! The iced coffee drink is called Cafe Au Lait, and it's kind of like a coffe slushie. We loved it so much we kept going back to for more!

Southern Candymakers had the most fresh and delicious pralines and other handmade candies. I loved their pumpkin praline!
