Welcome to the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island. Located smack dab in the middle of the beautiful Whitsundays I had the fortunate oppprtunity to work as a landscape gardener on Hamilton Island for a few months. I can share with you some of the beautiful locality and surrounding areas!
I promise you, you will never see a better beach sunrise in your life. Located just outside the reef hotel, this stunning beach is open to the public with plenty of scuba and kitesurf rentals nearby. This is defintley a tropical paradise island and this beach is no different.
Located on whitsunday island, just a little north east of Hamilton island, it hosts the world famous Whitehaven beach. The sand here is 98% silica. It feels like snow and is as white as snow too! Supposedly, the NASA Hubble telescope lens was crafted from this very sand. Unreal place and cannot be missed.
Just a rock throw away from Hamilton Island, this island hosts an 18 hole golf course and has a beautiful clubhouse restaurant. It's fairly cheap (by aussie standards) to play golf here considering it's in the middle of the beautiful whitsunday islands.
The closest point to the whitsundays on the mainland. You can take pretty much any boat to any island from here just like Hamilton Island. Loaded with plenty of party hostels, pubs, and cafe's. It was sometimes more worthwhile to take a boat over here once in awhile for groceries as grocery stores are more expensive/scarce on the islands.
If you've ever dremnt of snorkeling the great barrier reef now is your chance. Travel Whitsundays is a tour operator that offers many different tours out to the reef and surrounding islands for half day or full day excursions. The reef dive one is my personal favorite, you can see coral right in front of you and are able to see fish clear as day!
My time out here was excellent and I hope this provides some more insight to your future plans! Cheers.
