Day 9 - Drove to King of Prussia, PA. While the drive from Jersey City to King of Prussia, PA is not long technically, the process of acquiring transportation and then navigating there was more time consuming than expected! We had to first get to the Newark airport to get our rental car and once there, getting the rental car from Avis took ages. Then, we were on our way but soon stopped for lunch. We reached our hotel in good time, found our hotel and then had dinner at a BBQ place. Some days are just travel days without much in the way of sights.
Day 10 - Amish country to Gettysburg! This day turned out to be one of the most enjoyable days of the trip. We headed into central Pennsylvania with the lush and rolling fields of crops. Amish were driving by in buggies. We stopped at Lapp's Dairy Farm for homemade ice cream and also stopped at a local market to pick up birch beer (non-alcoholic) and shoe-fly pie and fry pie. I'd noticed that there was a nearby park where the Appalachian Trail crossed just north of Gettysburg. This part, Pine Grove Furnace State Park, is actually where the midpoint of the AT is located. We walked around the park and even part of the AT. Our boys rigged up homemade fishing poles and fished in the lake. We then made our way to Gettysburg. #amishcountry
Day 11 - Gettysburg! We headed to the Gettysburg National Military Park in the morning where we viewed their displays, watched the movie and then went to watch the 3-D cyclorama interactive display. My husband decided that he wanted to see the cemetery which was a vast place. Finally after a late lunch, we headed back to Philadelphia but one of the "to do" items was to get a Philly cheese steak so for dinner we went to Jim's for Philly cheese steaks. As I didn't want to miss the Liberty Bell or Independence Hall, we went at night and thankfully both the bell and the hall were lighted! #gettysburg
Day 12 - Return to LA from Philadelphia via Detroit.
Wow!!
