Context
I have romanian roots and I am based in the UK.This is the budget trip I made two years ago.
I speak English and a little bit of Romanian, just to get by.As any other country in the EU,Romania has a good flight connection with the other countries,so I booked a cheap $30 round flight from London to Bucharest.Romania is connected by railways and coach routes, with websites such as
-autogari.ro
cfrcalatori.ro/en
where you can book your transport.
Day 1:
Early in the morning I arrived in Bucharest.I completed the check-in to the hotel and took a taxi to the Old Town to have a nice coffee and a delicious romanian breakfast. Then,I went for a walk around the Old Town and headed to see the main attractions of the city-Palace of Parliament, the Romanian Athenaeum,Village Museum, the Arch of Triumph.Bucharest has a lot of streetfood which kept me full till dinner.Without acknowledging,I saw myself once again in the Old Town, where I had dinner and a beer.
Day 2:
I woke up and took the bus to Herastrau Park, and there I rented a bike and cycled around the park for a few hours.Truly beautiful and peaceful. Then I checked out some museums once again and went to eat at Caru cu Bere, one of the most famous restaurants in Bucharest.
After two days,I left Bucharest with a good impression. It's a nice vibrant city with a mix of communist and french architectural influences.
Day 3:
I took the coach to Sinaia,to see the Peles Castle. Then I went to Brasov, where I visited the center of the city(see Piata Sfatului).
Day 4:
I walked around Brasov all day.
Day 5:
I rented a $25 car and went to see the famous Bran Castle(more commonly known as Dracula Castle) and Rasnov Fortress.
Day 6:
I headed to Sighisoara, the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler.I can say that it was my favourite place of the trip.(sights worth to see:Sighisoara Citadel and the Clock Tower).
Day 7:
I went from Sighisoara to Sibiu.I walked around the center of the city, being mesmerised by the german architecture of the city, and I got to see the famous Bridge of Lies.
Day 8:
I woke up and took a taxi to the Astra open air Museum, where you can observe the old way of village life in Romania. After the museum,I took the coach to Curtea de Arges, where I visited a famous Romanian orthodox monastery.
Day 9:
From Curtea de Arges,I went to the city of Pitesti,a provincial town with a notorious ex-communist prison, which is now transformed in a museum.Interesting sight to see, where you can get a glimpse of romanian communist history. Then I took the train back to Bucharest, where I finished my trip, enjoying one last beer in the beautiful Old Town.
Important:
Romania is not in the Eurozone,so you will have to exchange your bills into the local currency. It is mostly a cash society.I hope you'll find this useful.
