Newport is a fantastic little town with so much character and it's a great base to see the surrounding towns.
We stayed in the Newport Student Village which is student accommodation that is super cheap. We had a huge double room with an en-suit in a flat so we had a shared kitchen and living room area but it was £114 for 5 nights, can't argue with that haha. You do have to pay for the car park so make sure that you get the right passes if you are parking there for a little while.
A great place for looking and a walk around is the Friars Walk Shopping Centre. There are loads of shops and restaurants for a day of retail therapy.
Tawa Buffet is a fantastic all-you-can-eat place that has some seriously yummy food and is quite cheap. It got really busy while we were there so I'm thinking that a lot of locals like it too. I love their spicy curries, I tried quite a few of them and they were delicious.
The Queen's Hotel is a Wetherspoons Pub so it is cheap and cheerful but the food is good and if you download the Wetherspoons app, you can order all of your food and drink without having to leave your table.
There are loads of amazing statues as you walk around the town, the stand and stare, the pig, Sir Charles Morgan, the bull, the navy memorial and a few others.
