8 Days in Prague and Munich

Prague Overview

• The most beautiful and historic town, an incredible city that seems to be open all night with everything in the world to do. I could retire here. We went over New Years and it was an incredible experience. If you only go to two places go to Pivovarsky dum and U Fleku.

Hotel Recommendation: Hotel Sunrise, a beautiful hotel in a great location.

Food Recommendation: Pivovarsky dum – all of their food is incredible, their beer is delicious. Our favorite restaurant in Prague.

V Zpevacku  - traditional food and delicious duck

Dish – A famous burger joint that deserves 5 stars. You need a reservation but wow the food is so good.

Bageterie Boulevard- A fast food place if you need a quick bite. Non-traditional food.

Any and all streetfood.

Drink Recommendation: Hemingway bar, Lokal, Zahradni restaurace Letensky zamecek (beer garden), Zephyr, U Fleku, Popocafepetl

Nightlife Recommendation: Vzorkovna – seriously the coolest bar ever. Swings, bathtubs in the rafters, a music hall, lots of bars, etc. Very awesome. The bouncers are rough so keep your cool. Other than that, it’s an awesome time. Oh, and there is a dog! Avoid the 5 story club. It’s expensive and you can get a better experience other places in the city.

Activity Recommendations: Jewish Quarter, Opera, Cooking Classes, Prague Castle, Petrin Hill

Day 1: We arrived into town late so we grabbed dinner at Pivovarsky Dum (goulash was delish and so were their beer flights). We then headed to Wenceslas Square and walked around the holiday markets. It was beautiful – so many shops and gluehwein and streetfood. It was all lit up and stunning.

Day 2: It was new years eve so we started the day early! We went to the Lego museum (as a non-lego fan, meh, but my lego loving partner found it cool). We then visited the Sex Machines museum which was a novelty but actually very informative and fun! We headed to U Fleku for new years eve snacks and drinks. This place is incredible. They serve the oldest beer in Prague (yes only 1 beer is served) and they come around with beer on trays. If you want one they give you a tally mark. At the end of the night you pay based on how many tally marks you have accumulated. There is traditional music and overall a great atmosphere. We then went to the Charles Bridge which was a mistake on New Year’s. It was packed to the point of suffocation, so we headed to another pub to wait until midnight. We went to Popocafepetl where they taught us a traditional Czech game of slipping coasters and catching them. It was a fun time.  Once midnight hit, we stood on the main promenade and watch all of the fireworks. Fun fact about Prague is there are no firework regulations so there were people launching fireworks on the street and a few people got hit. Everyone was okay, just something to keep in mind. We then had a late dinner at V Zpevacku.

Day 3: We explored New Town, the Jewish Quarter, and went to the alchemy museum. The alchemy museum has an incredible history and I implore you to visit. The Jewish Quarter is extremely informational laden with hundreds of years of history. Buy the pass and do as much as you can. We then made our way over to Prague Castle and ended at Petrin Hill. Prague does their official city firework display on new year’s day, so we went to the hill to watch. It was a perfect location.

Day 4: We did a free walking tour (Sandeman tours, incredible) and toured Old Town, New Town, and the Jewish Quarter. Even though we explored these places yesterday, we gained a lot of historical information from the tour guide. We went back to Pivovarsky Dum for dinner and then headed to the Karlin theatre for an opera. The theatre was stunning and the acting/voice were incredible. We are so happy we attended. We saw Die Fledermaus. After the Opera we went to U Vodku which was a local pub by our hotel—cash only. Oh, and they have ribs!

Day 5: We went to the Museum of Man which was interesting and then headed into Wenceslas square one more time. We wanted to see the clock strike noon and it was just as disappointing as we expected it to be. We then hopped onto a train to Munich!
