2 Fun Days in Gent

We took the train from Brugge and arrived in Ghent for our 2 day stay.

Day 1: After disembarking from the train, you must take the tram to the  heart of Ghent. We checked into the Ghent Marriott hotel, although expensive and the hotel not up to date, the location makes up for it. Looking for local beer, we came across another Belgium pub-'Dulle Griet'. This pub is unique in that it has 100's of beers on tap and when ordering, you must put your shoe in a basket as to not run off on your tab, quirky but cool. Spending a few hours strolling the city we settled for dinner at restaurant-La Pizzeria. After a good meal, we went back to the hotel for the night. 

Day 2: First thing in the morning we toured the Gravensteen Castle which had great history and interesting aspects. The tour in itself is a bit quick but worth it. If going, I reccommend taking the guided tour they offer which is free. We made our way to what was the newly opened 'Lamb of God' exhibit which is one of the oldest paintings. The painting consists of multiple painted panels that depict a biblical message. If going, make sure you arrive close to opening time as the viewing area is small. After, we settled for lunch at 'Roots' restaraunt which serves traditional Belgian fare. I reccommend going to this restraunt to experience the unique taste of Belgium. Walking the streets of Ghent we found 'Graffiti Alley' that lets people spray paint whatever you want. A stop in Belgium would not be complete without going to a chocolate shop which there are plenty here!
