Day 10 - Kyoto to Kanazawa We arrived in Kanazawa and headed over to K's House Kanazawa to check in for 1 night. It was about a 35-40 minute walk from the JR Station, which we didn't mind at all. It was about time for us to do laundry and reset our luggage situation to prepare for the Alpine Route trek we'd planned for the next day, so we didn't plan to sight see much if at all.
We did get the best soft-serve ice cream I've ever had in my freaking life from this random place we ran into in Tatemachi and then my husband got some crazy good omakase menu sushi from Ippei Sushi.
Then, we went back to K's House, which by the way is totally the best, coziest, cleanest hostel ever, to get cleaned up and set our early-morning alarms for the trip across the Alpine Route. Unfortunately...
Day 11 - Bonus Day in Kanazawa (and Crisis 2/3)
Unfortunately, I am very stupid and forgot to consider the travel times of the buses. We needed to be on some of the very earliest trains to Toyama to get on track to actually reach Tokyo by nighttime. What I didn't count on was that the buses from K's House to the train station didn't start nearly as early as that, and the ride to the station would lose us more time on top of that.
So after some freaking out at the bus stop, we realized... No. If we left, we probably couldn't make it, and even if we did, it would be a rushed and unpleasant trip. So we resigned ourselves to paying for a hotel room in Tokyo that was totally empty, running back to K's House to reserve another night there, and seeing Kanazawa.
We ended up having a great time, so no regrets! Kanazawa Castle was doing an event where they lit up the gardens and castle grounds and you could enter for free for beautiful, quiet night tours – perfect for 2 night owls who hate crowds. :)
So we did that, and then got some killer yakitori (but like is there such a thing as bad yakitori??) and more of that same amazing softserve ice cream, then went to bed early with the knowledge that the next day, we could NOT take any chances on missing our route.
If we did this trip again, we'd actually plan more time in Kanazawa! It had a really similar vibe to Kyoto (we passed a TON of shrines and pretty spots we would have loved to check out) but was much less crowded and everything felt very calm. We really loved it here!

I love a destination with an aquarium. Adding Osaka as a must-stop in the future to visit.
