I ended up staying here once before Austin and Ft. Worth, and once right after on this trip.
Activities:
Cadillac Ranch - Bring your spraypaint! Ten Cadillacs stand upright in a field next to I-40 on the outskirts of Amarillo, for everyone to decorate. There's even a song about this place (Cadillac Ranch by Bruce Springsteen).
Capulin National Monument - Located in northeastern New Mexico, it's a dormant volcano with plentiful wildlife and scenery. Drive to the top of the crater, hike down, and cherish the natural beauty of this remote formation!
Lodging:
The Big Texan (stayed before Austin and Ft. Worth) - Quirky Texan motel next to a restaurant of the same name. Popular with tourists and bikers.
Ashmore Inn (stayed after Austin and Ft. Worth) - Peaceful local inn to get some rest. Two locations, one here and one in Lubbock, TX.
Eateries:
The Big Texan - Famous steakhouse that hosts a 72 oz. steak challenge. There are plenty of other options too! Much like a standalone Texas Roadhouse.
