Day 1 (Arrival)
Landed at Cancun International Airport where we were met with our previously booked airport pickup. I recommend when traveling to resorts in the Caribbean to always arrange a pickup. It saves you the hassle of trying to weed out scammers that might be at the airport overcharging you a cab fee. The drive took our hotel took about 90-minutes.
The hotel we stayed at was the Hideaway at Royalton Adults Only. If you're just a couple traveling I recommend staying there or just finding a resort that's adults-only. I also recommend relaxing the first day before doing any activities, it gives your body some time to relax a bit after flying. We came from NYC on a 6 AM flight which lasted for about 4 hours. We needed the downtime after all of that.
Day 2
We relaxed by the pool and beach during the day, but at night decided to visit the Coco Bongo. Coco Bongo is unique in that it combines a Las Vegas-style show with a dance club/Mexican fiesta ambiance. During the night you'll see talented performers through the crowd changing in and out of different costumes. There will be jokes, laughter and lots of music. It did get a bit cramped inside so if you're gonna go I would recommend going with a group and booking a V.I.P. The drinks were priced ok. Overall we had a great time.
Day 3
We were off to Chichen Itza! Truly a modern marvel! I recommend getting there as early as possible to beat the crowds. Just seeing it through pictures doesn't do it justice, it is really a modern marvel! Our tour guide walked us through the site breaking down Mayan culture. I would continue but ... it's just better you go your self and check it out!
Day 4
We were off to Isla Mujeres! We took a shuttle from our hotel to a catamaran to get there. Isla Mujeres is a beautiful, peaceful paradise just across the Bahia de Mujeres (Bay of Women) from Cancun, Mexico. I found it to be more laid-back and quiet than Cancun. They have beautiful white sand beaches, calm crystal clear turquoise waters, and some of the friendliest locals in the Mexican Caribbean. You can also shop here as well, but for me, the beaches and turquoise waters won me over. The pictures I posted of my girlfriend floating doesn't do it justice.
Day 5
We decided to continue our exploration with a trip to the famous Tulum National Park. It took us about 90 minutes to get there, but it was well worth it. Both my girlfriend and I loved the history lesson and tour of the coastal Mayan city. You'll also see tons of wildlife running around throughout the city.
Day 6
We just relaxed by the pool being lazy all day! I feel like on vacation a lazy day is important. It really helped us wind down after all the activities.
Day 7
We went back home to NY that morning!
Overall a great trip! My highlights were the Mayan ruin learning about the culture, very cool!
Man the beaches look beautiful, thanks for the informative itinerary!
